You Could Be Offering a Feast to Roof Termites

As an Orange County roofing company, we know that wooden roof shingles are vulnerable to termite invasion. Once those uninvited guests slip inside, it takes professional experts get them out. Fortunately, homeowners can take several preventative measures to keep termites away. But why take the word of this commercial roofing contractor? Here are first-hand insights straight from the source.

Hi, I’m a termite. I eat wood … anytime, anywhere. And that means all the way up on your roof if that’s where the feast is. Love those wooden roof shingles!  Except when they’re painted. Me and the gang just won’t penetrate painted wood. Never have. Never will. So if you want us out, coat those wooden shingles with paint. And no cracks or peels. Those are open doorways.

Remember, we’re always scouting for prospects. So the last thing you should do is give us an open invitation. You know, those piles of lumber, firewood, tree branches, and shrubberies sitting in your yard. We’ll be on them in a nanosecond! And once we land, we look for more easy pickins – like wooden roof shingles.

Oh yeah, if you have an attic, cover all the vents and windows with screens. Never been a termite yet that could penetrate one of those. Well, that’s it for now. Just saw a pile of lumber, and I haven’t had lunch.

Luckily, these preventative measures can steer termites away from your rooftop. But if they ever do cause damage to your roof, get the advice of a qualified Orange County roofing contractor.

If you have questions about roof termites or are considering roof repairs or upgrades, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. Turkeys on the Roof

For most of us this Thanksgiving, the next turkey we see will be hot and piping on the dinner table. Some people, however, actually will witness these birds roaming their neighborhood. These are wild turkeys, which more and more are finding their way into suburban communities. Not that Orange County is due for a visit any time soon. Nevertheless, as every Orange County roofing company firmly believes, homeowners should be prepared for everything. So with that in mind, here’s what to do if a pack of wild turkeys ever do roost on your roof.

The general idea here is to persuade the uninvited turkeys to relocate. First of all, you should know that the average urban turkey tends to select treetops over roofs when it comes to roosting spots. If branch space is limited, however, to the rooftops they may go. Once the birds are atop your home, don’t expect subtlety. Wild turkeys are known noisemakers.

Fortunately, you won’t need a commercial roofing contractor to rid yourself of the trespassers. Wild turkeys might sound fearsome, but they’re actually fairly easy to discourage. A little spray from the garden hose often is enough to send them packing. If that doesn’t work, try again. Eventually, they should get the message. And just in case the water treatment doesn’t do the trick, homeowners can utilize anti-perching devices such as bird wire.

Of course, as earlier stated, wild turkeys probably won’t be roaming the local streets any time soon. But as this Orange County roofing contractor has learned, you never know. Happy Thanksgiving!

If you have questions about unwanted things on your roof, including wild turkeys, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. Got Grime? Call a Pro

There are many instances in which you’ll want to call in a reputable Orange County roofing company. One of these instances obviously is when you need to replace your existing roof with a new one. But you definitely don’t won’t to create a situation that requires you to enlist the services of a residential roofer or commercial roofing contractor unnecessarily. These are the situations that occur when you do something that shouldn’t be done to or on your roof. For example, pressure washing. This might eliminate unsightly grime from your rooftop. But the process also will eliminate things that should be left untouched.

One of the things that will be eliminated is the layer of asphalt granules protecting shingles. Pressure washing has a tendency to blast them away. Not a good thing. The granules are what shield your roof and therefore home from leaks. Not that you must endure all that grime marring the appearance of your shingles. There’s a right way to go about the task of beautifying your rooftop. And that way is to pick up the phone and contact a dependable Orange County roofing contractor. This professional has the tools and experience to eliminate grime without eliminating the important stuff.

No matter where you live in Orange County, there’s an expert available to provide grime-removable options that won’t damage your roof.  For a community such as Laguna Beach, for example, you’ll gain enormously by talking things over with a Laguna Beach roofing company. Doing otherwise could leave you open to roof damage and force you to make major repairs or get a whole new roof.

If you have any questions about removing grime from your roof, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofing company, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing need and situation. Whether you need roofing services in Irvine or anywhere else in OC, you definitely can count on Luke Roofing.

What Does an Orange County Roofer Install?

One function of an Orange County roofer, of course, is to install roofs. This job, however, requires more than laying down a few tiles. In fact, when an Orange County roofer installs a new roof, this professional must deal with a variety of components.

Whether a residential roofer or commercial roofer is on the job, these components remain fairly consistent. The first of them is the visible layer familiar to everyone, the roof covering. The material selected to cover and shield your rooftop is available in variety of styles and textures. The most common covering is shingles. Seen almost everywhere, these may be of the tile, slate, or metal variety. The choice depends on your personal preferences and objectives.

Naturally, your chosen roof covering requires support. In roofing circles, that support is known as sheathing. This foundation typically is a board made of a sturdy material such as plywood. An Orange County roofer connects this board to your rafters, thereby supporting shingles or other covering.

Sheathing, in turn, requires its own support. That’s the job of rafters and trusses.  The first of these, rafters, are beams that run from the eaves to the roof peak. Consider it the basic framework of a roof. Similar to rafters, trusses provide support in the form of posts and struts.

The final component an Orange County roofer deals with is flashing. This is critical for preventing water from seeping into your home during inclement weather. Typically constructed of sheet metal, flashing is installed into roof joints and valleys.

If you have any questions about what an Orange County roofer installs in a roofing system, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential or commercial roofing need and situation. From roofing services in Fullerton to roofing services in Laguna Beach, Luke Roofing has Orange County covered.

Your Roof Still Has a Long Way to Go

Don’t worry just because you notice signs of cracking and blistering on your roof. You needn’t call an Orange County Roofing Company for an urgent repair or replacement estimate. Most likely, the imperfections you’ve seen all are evidence of normal wear and tear. Cracks, blisters, granule loss, and similar signs are commonplace in the world of roofs. In fact, they can appear as soon as a month following the installation of a new roof. They don’t, by any stretch of the imagination, indicate that your shingles are vulnerable to moisture penetration. Buckets of rainwater will not be flooding into your living room any time soon. Not through the roof, anyway.

This is not to say that things don’t happen to your shingles as time passes. They most certainly do. However, unless your roof has been in service for decades, it probably has a long way to go. Still, be aware that deterioration can and will take place. You or a qualified Orange County roofing contractor should have a look at those shingles now and again. Intermittent inspections such as these can reveal unexpected problems. Yes, sometimes, despite the best construction and craftsmanship, problems show up. Shingles, like everything else, aren’t perfect.

Generally, climatic or environmental conditions are the cause of both expected wear and tear, as well as unexpected problems. Even in Orange County, land of moderate weather, shingles are susceptible to environmental elements.  In warmer regions, commercial roofing contractors and residential roofing contractors see the greatest impact made by phenomena such ultraviolet rays, wind, and accumulated moisture in poorly-ventilated areas of a home.

If you have questions about assessing the condition of your roof, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer in Laguna Beach and surrounding cities, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. No matter where you live in OC, you can count on Luke Roofing for the most efficient, reliable roofing solutions.

Recommended by Friend, Very Reasonable!

Luke Roofing was recommended to us by a friend. Came out to give us a quote on a leak and had it fixed the same day! Very reasonable, at less than half the price quoted to us by another company. One year warranty. We would use them again for sure!

Very Professional and Conscientious

During the week of rains here in So CA I had a leak in my roof. The leak was coming through a light fixture in the stairwell. I phoned Luke Roofing (as I had used them in the past) and within a day Jonathan stopped by to assess the damage. I was given an estimate within the given time period he said he would get back to me. I was told that they were 2 - 3 weeks out to do the job however I received a call within the week after the estimate indicating Lupe would be by the next day. Lupe is a polite man who spent about 2.5 hours working on the roof. When he was finished he informed me as to what caused the roof to leak and left for his next job. He was very professional and conscientious. I await the next rain storm to see if all was fixed - however there is a 2 year guarantee in the work done. The individuals employed by Luke Roofing are polite and professional. In the past Luke Roofing fixed my leaking roof in another part of the house and I did not have any leaks. I would do business with them anytime.

Highly Recommended
We had a tremendous experience with Luke Roofing. They came highly recommend by our neighbors. Luke’s price was lower than two other bids we received. They installed a new concrete tile roof and solar panel system. Everything went exactly as promised and as planned. There were no surprises and when unforeseen issues arose with our home, they willingly fixed it all without any additional cost. I would highly recommend Luke Roofing.

This company is professional, honest, and does things by the book. They did a fabulous job for us when we needed some old solar panels removed. They didn't try to sell us a new roof like every other company did. I would highly recommend them. My only complaint, which isn't really a complaint, is that I had to follow up often on getting a date for the work to be done. I can only suspect it was because our needs weren't as lucrative as doing a new roof even though for us it was a very expensive job. Overall, I'm very glad we chose them.

My experience with Luke Roofing Inc. goes back some twenty plus years when I replaced my shingle roof with a class A asphalt roof.  It was nice to know that he is still in business !  I was not surprised really when I thought about it,  because his price was competitive, they did exactly as the contract said with no surprises, they cleaned up at the end of each work day and if my memory serves me correctly they wrapped up the job a little earlier than expected.  I have since recommended them to many of my neighbors with no complaints that I am aware of...I think they must be a reputable company that does good work or they wouldn't still be in business !

The entire Luke Roofing Team is nothing short of amazing. Roofing done right with permits, inspections, quality guaranteed product, and certified master shinglers that are licensed, bonded and insured is not the least expensive price, however, had the previous owners of my home used Luke...instead of using a company who did everything wrong...used faulty products, never pulled permits and never had the stages of their work inspected, .I would have had a 50 year guarantee and a no worries roof when I purchased this home. You get what you pay for.

On top of all the above...their kindness, cleanliness, and professionalism was off the charts...Even my neighbors were blown away. They commented they had never seen such an organized, professional, hard working crew....and they did what they said in the time frame they quoted. Their clean up every day was outstanding. And, their final clean up was with this big magnet they took all over my property to suck up any hidden nails that their clean up may have missed.

Gary and Caleb are really good people and that seems to trickle down to all their employees. I found out that some have been with them for over 20 years.

I was pleased to find out they could also do my gutters and paint for the new eves and facia. Using them for that was also one less worry. They did an outstanding job.

I can't say enough about Luke Roofing. I highly recommend them....Great job guys and thank you for taking such good care of us and our home..... wish I could hire you and your team for all my future home improvements, too bad for me you only do roofs, solar, etc.
