Think Before You Tackle

The moment an Orange County Roofing company begins servicing a roof, the team invariably knows whether or not someone else has been there first. And that someone usually is a homeowner intent on solving a problem without the assistance of an Orange County roofing contractor.  Not necessarily a bad move – provided said do-it-yourselfer has the requisite skill, knowledge, and time to do a creditable job. If this sounds like an accurate description of you, then, depending on the complexity of your roofing needs, you might be qualified for a DIY job – like cleaning leaves out of a rain gutter.  Anything more complex than that really does require the skills of a commercial roofing contractor.

Think about the investment you’ve made in your beautiful Orange County home, say in San Juan Capistrano. Would you really want to risk jeopardizing the investment by tearing into the roof, relying on your wits alone? Doesn’t it make more sense to call in a San Juan Capistrano roofer to tackle the assignment? In most cases, the answer will be a resounding ‘yes’.

It’s not unusual for an Orange County roofing company to be summonsed for a roof rescue. These typically occur when homeowners have started something they couldn’t finish – at least, couldn't finish without risking their safety or the future performance of their roof tiles. The dollars these homeowners had hoped to save now will spent in increasing amounts, mainly to cover any damage caused by their efforts, as well as service costs. In the long run, DIY roofing services likely will set you back more than originally anticipated.

So think before you tackle a roofing assignment. Because, in all likelihood, you’ll pay tomorrow for whatever mistakes you make today.

If you have any questions about doing your own roof servicing, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County Roofing company, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Whether you need roofing services in Brea or anywhere else in OC, you definitely can count on Luke Roofing.

A Cleaner Roof

Every homeowner on the planet knows what heavy rains can do to a roof, particularly if those fine asphalt shingles develop a leak or two. But other meteorological phenomena also can make an impact on the average rooftop. Consider, for instance, the issue of humidity. Along with making things mighty uncomfortable for a variety of life forms, humidity can promote the growth of algae on once-pristine shingles. Don’t worry. Algae likely won’t damage your roof. But it could damage property values. After all, prominent green-blue stains seldom are aesthetically-pleasing to onlookers. The good news is, these blights on your rooftop can be removed fairly easily by an Orange County roofing company. Or, if you dare, by yourself or a friend. The main point is, the problem is easily dealt with.

Whether you opt to go with an Orange County roofing contractor or your own self, the person performing the algae purge will require several cleansing agents. Various stain-removing products are available to homeowners, residential roofing contractors, and commercial roofing contractors. Also highly effective is a homemade mixture of ordinary bleach, trisodium phosphate (TSP), and water. Do-it-yourselfers take note: you’ll need a pump sprayer, goggles, gloves, and several other items in order to pull this off. And be sure not to overdo. Repeated barrages of pressurized spray can wear away the protective elements layering shingles. So perform this operation sparingly.

Of course, an Orange County roofing company can eliminate the time-consuming cleansing process altogether. Currently available are algae-resistant shingles, which utilize copper granules to prevent this unwanted growth.

If you have questions about removing algae from your roof, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer in Brea and surrounding cities, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. No matter where you live in OC, you can count on Luke Roofing for the most efficient, reliable roofing solutions.

Choose Roofing Materials Wisely

The Pros and Cons of Orange County Roofing Materials

Until you build a custom home or re-roof your existing home, you might not even think about all the types of roofing materials that are available today. But take a cross-country road trip through America, and you’ll see many different types of roofing materials - metal, asphalt shingles, clay, cedar shake shingles, and more.

Orange County homes can use any of these types of roofs, but before you choose your ideal roofing material, you need to know the pros and cons of all of your options. Here are the pros and cons of the most common Orange County roofing materials:

Asphalt shingles: Because they’re easiest to install, about ¾ of American roofs are covered in asphalt shingles. They come in a variety of colors, and they’re less expensive than other types of roofing materials, costing between $50 and $150 per 100 square feet.

Recommended by Friend, Very Reasonable!

Luke Roofing was recommended to us by a friend. Came out to give us a quote on a leak and had it fixed the same day! Very reasonable, at less than half the price quoted to us by another company. One year warranty. We would use them again for sure!

Very Professional and Conscientious

During the week of rains here in So CA I had a leak in my roof. The leak was coming through a light fixture in the stairwell. I phoned Luke Roofing (as I had used them in the past) and within a day Jonathan stopped by to assess the damage. I was given an estimate within the given time period he said he would get back to me. I was told that they were 2 - 3 weeks out to do the job however I received a call within the week after the estimate indicating Lupe would be by the next day. Lupe is a polite man who spent about 2.5 hours working on the roof. When he was finished he informed me as to what caused the roof to leak and left for his next job. He was very professional and conscientious. I await the next rain storm to see if all was fixed - however there is a 2 year guarantee in the work done. The individuals employed by Luke Roofing are polite and professional. In the past Luke Roofing fixed my leaking roof in another part of the house and I did not have any leaks. I would do business with them anytime.

I was challenged with a very complicated roofing problems as it was made of metal, tile and installed wrong which caused many leaks. The roof was only 10 years old!!  It took me 3-4 months of interviewing contractors as I needed to get the right one. Can you believe that the only one to come up with a water test on top of the roof was Gary the owner! Such a simple thing but everyone else was taking my word where the leaks were. Don't take my word! I'm not a roofer!! Gary and his team went above and beyond. His fabricator was brilliant in the redesign as it had ridges, crickets and slopes down instead of puddling. Luke Roofing knows what there doing!!

Good Honorable Company

In early 2019, when the severe rains came, I had two leaks in my upstairs master bathroom, about ten feet apart.  I was somewhat desperate, and tried several roofing companies.  The waiting list for everybody, including Luke, was lengthy, but i had no choice but to wait.  I picked Luke because of high ratings on Angie's List.  Glad I did.

As it turned out, one flat area required a new roof.  I paid for that, approximately $3,000, and both leaks stopped.  A few months later, both leaks reappeared.  i couldn't believe it.  No problem, Luke's people came out and inspected everything.  A team of 3-4 men spent hours on the roof, going over everything.  They determined that neither leak was related to the roof or their work I had one drain completely stuffed with leaves, and another area where the stucco on the wall around the roof was severely deteriorated. They showed me several pictures. After fixing those problems with a plumber and a stucco company, those two leaks are gone.  No new leaks until last week.

Last week, a new leak appeared, in a totally different location.  Erin Luke sent a man out to the house who fixed that leak immediately and I paid a small $200-$300 invoice.

This is a good honorable, company, who will show up when they say they will, and charge a very fair price.  They are now my "go to" roofers.  I've referred them to others.

After spending 4 frustrating months dealing with insurance company and bank to settle a disaster claim for part of my roof, Luke was a breath of fresh air. My roof was partially damaged, but it was old so I decided to replace the whole thing. I took bids from several companies and, although Luke was not the absolute low bid, I have to say that I selected them because of the perceived "value" for me. I am a business owner and I place a high premium on companies who treat their customers right and with high integrity. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and there were no surprises. They also finished the job 1-2 days before they quoted, which I very much appreciated. They worked closely with my chosen Solar company (Sullivan Solar) to prep the roof for solar install, which is happening next month.

My neighbor even saw them working and hired them for his roof repair job.

I highly recommend Luke for any roofing project. Good, honest, fair and reliable. Nobody likes to spend money on these things, but if you have to, it sure feels a lot better when you can do it with a company that you can trust.

Absolutely Professional

We had our 32 year old cedar shake roof replaced with the GAF timeline architectural roof.  The guys were absolutely professional.  They arrived on time and completed the entire project in three days.  We had lots of dry rot damage as well as termite damage.  It was replaced perfectly.  Every day the work site was clean.  I was referred by a close friend and I have also referred my brother.  My neighbors were amazed how it looks and how quickly it was done.
